Autoimmune Diseases & Inflammatory Conditions
Autoimmune disease and other inflammatory conditions are diseases that result from an overactive immune response against substances and tissues normally present in the body, ie. the body actually attacks its own cells.
There are several autoimmune diseases including:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Coeliac Disease.
Fibromyalgia is not Autoimmune Diseases, but diet can help play a role in helping to reduce the symptoms of these conditions.
HOW DIET HELPS
Some fatty acids in modern diets can be pro-inflammatory, increasing the body’s immune response. Our immune system can also be weakened by proteins that compromise the junctions in our gastrointestinal tract, causing our gut to leak damaging proteins into our systems.
Dietary changes can make it possible to shift the balance in our eating and reduce the fatty acids and proteins that increase our inflammation response.
THE 30-DAY DIET CHALLENGE
My 30-Day Diet Challenge focuses on real foods while reducing foods that may be playing havoc with your immune system. By focusing on plenty of vegetables to ensure adequate nutrient intakes, the programme removes:
- Foods that are potentially increasing inflammation in the body
- Proteins that may result in damage to the gut lining and increased inflammation
- Foods that increase stress on the body and result in excessive insulin and cortisol responses.
Dietitians in the US are having huge success (over 80% success rate) in helping people reduce symptoms and improve their quality of life with diets such as the 30-Day Diet Challenge. While the diet doesn’t cure the disease, it can improve your quality of life by reducing inflammation and other stresses placed on the body.

Everyone has stress in their lives – but what should you do if it starts taking over? Stress can have a terrible impact on our relationships, our happiness and our health. Even if you’re aware of how stress makes you feel mentally; you may not be aware of the physical impact it’s having on your body.
Coeliac Disease is an autoimmune disorder caused by an intolerance to gluten. Gluten exists in wheat, barley and oats. If you suffer from Coeliac Disease, I can offer you practical guidance and support with your diet to help you work through the symptoms and manage your health.
