I found Diane on the internet.  Since I live in Wellington and she is based in Hastings, and she specialises in auto-immune diseases, and I really wanted to talk to her, we used Skype to communicate.  My main issues were with Endometriosis.  It was really easy and straight forward, I could see Diane, share a laugh or two, and still talk to her as if I was in her waiting room.  I made great progress and we got to the bottom of my issues.  It's been great to live a life without digestive issues, lose some weight and have more energy (something I did not have before).

I have always suspected I have a problem with certain foods. I have found out I am unable to eat egg products but have felt there was something else that was causing headaches, puffy eyes, fuzzy headedness, fatigue and a general feeling of unwellness. I have often looked at other people and their energy with envy. I had allergy tests and tested negative for food allergies. I felt I was imagining things and was at a loss as to what was causing me to feel this way when I thought I was eating a healthy balanced diet with a minimum of processed foods. I suspected it was a food or food group that was causing me to feel bad but was at a loss as to where to go to get help.

I was feeling desperate when I read Diane’s advert in our local paper. She is the first person I have found that tests for food chemicals and additives. I made an appointment with a sense of hope and a feeling that I had nothing to lose.

It is the best thing I have done for myself. Under Diane’s guidance I am identifying the food chemicals that are causing my problem. We are still in the process of testing, I am already feeling better and am excited that I am getting answers at long last. When we have completed the testing I will have the knowledge and power to take charge of my health and well being. I am very grateful I have met Diane and can’t thank her enough.

I have recently attended a program of Mind,Body and Soul Awareness.It was taken by Diane Stride and set in an idyllic spot in the Tuki Tuki valley.The program was a practical application for reducing stress and increasing awareness of the present.I have been aware of the effects of stress and anxiety on my health for years and this program was a great opportunity to explore new insights of myself and use the practical tools given to us to respond to situations that have caused stress in the past.The program was very relaxed and Diane produced follow up notes which i have found great to revisit. This course has completely changed the way I view my relationship with food. It has helped me to take a deeper look at how and why I eat. In a safe and non-judgemental environment I have been able to share my experiences with others who are also struggling with food. Dieting and weight loss used to involve a lot of guilt and negativity but not any more. I now have the tools to change my deeply ingrained habitual eating patterns from a place of love and nurturing. I'm the only one that can do it. And I will. Because I'm worth it! You are too!

Being very active in the fitness industry, I have read a lot about various diets and ways in which to manage both weight and health, but did not want to go an another crack pot diet.

After following her advice, I am now a good few kilos lighter and joints are doing fine- I have not used anti-inflammatory for 4 months now- and know if I eat wrong, the pain will come back… and does, so why would I want to sabotage my good health.

Health benefits of losing weight

Richard came to see me a few months ago for weight loss. He needed to have surgery to his knees, but the surgeon wanted him to first lose weight. Richard was highly motivated to change his habits. I first assessed what he was doing and gave him a meal plan to help guide him through losing weight. Richard has never ceased to amaze me with his positive attitude about the changes he has had to make. Even after all these months and all those shed kilograms, he is still finding the whole process easy. It is very rewarding to see him walk so much easier and to know that he is able to partake in many more activities now, due to changes he has taken on board and decided to make. Excellent news Richard.

These are Richard’s words:-

“The reason why I started this diet was to reduce my weight for a knee replacement operation. I started out at 104kg and after three months I am now 84kg, and this resulted in cancelling the knee operation. I am able to walk now without pain and my general health is much better. Even my sugar levels have dropped, so I am now only a marginal diabetic. The actual diet was wonderful. I have never really felt hungry following it and I now do not miss any of the fatty and starchy foods, oils, margarine, beers and sweet foods. The foods recommended were very easily followed. Each client is unique when it comes to weight-loss

Neelu came and saw me a few months ago, wanting help with losing weight. She had tried many diets without any success. She was highly motivated, an essential component to any dietary change. By changing the types of foods she was eating, and the frequency, she was able to easily reach her goal weight.

When clients come and see me for weight-loss, I don’t use the same approach for each person. It completely depends on their unique situation and what I think will be the most likely approach to help them achieve their goals.

“Despite leading an active life, regular exercise and regulated diet, I was getting over weight. I tried my best to keep myself into shape but to no avail.

I tried all fad diets, like eating less, eating no carbohydrates, protein drinks etc etc but nothing seemed to help.

Few months back got to see Diane Stride who put me on a balanced diet. The change in eating 4 meals a day at regular intervals made a huge difference and I lost weight and reached my goal in 3 months. It’s even hard for me to believe when I step on the scales that now I eat more food than before and still lost the extra weight.

I have struggled with being overweight for 30 years

I have struggled with being overweight for 30 years. I realised early on that my battle was really with food rather than weight. While I managed to lose weight a few times by restricting the food I ate for a few weeks at a time, I could never maintain it for long and so my weight would soon balloon again. I felt like I had a secret (eating) life and I felt ashamed of being fat. Over the years I tried everything I ever came across to try to stop overeating. But no matter what, all I ever wanted to do was eat and eat and eat. I think that maybe I was the Hungry Caterpillar in a previous life.

I have struggled with being overweight for 30 years. I realised early on that my battle was really with food rather than weight. While I managed to lose weight a few times by restricting the food I ate for a few weeks at a time, I could never maintain it for long and so my weight would soon balloon again. I felt like I had a secret (eating) life and I felt ashamed of being fat. Over the years I tried everything I ever came across to try to stop overeating. But no matter what, all I ever wanted to do was eat and eat and eat. I think that maybe I was the Hungry Caterpillar in a previous life.
 
In 2014, at 44, I had a health scare that meant I was in Critical Care for 5 days. While wired to the hospital bed I reflected on my life. I was proud of everything, and at peace with everything, except that I had never been able to figure out how to stop overeating and was potentially going to die fat. As it transpired, I didn’t die and so I left hospital determined that I would now stop over eating and lose weight. Instead I gained over 10 kg in as many weeks. I felt both panic stricken and entirely hopeless.
 
Even though I was so sure there was nothing left for me to try, other than surgery, I went to Diane to see if she could help me. I was not hopeful. Yet Diane was so calm and clear and kept it really simple for me – and told me to follow an approach to eating that I had never heard of before. It turned out I didn’t know everything about losing weight after all!
 
Diane outlined an approach to eating, a lifestyle, on a single A4 sheet of paper with only a dozen or so words. As Diane went through it with me, it seemed like it was something I could do. It involved eating rather than starving which was a great start! It also involved foods I loved and so, with Diane’s encouragement, I could focus on eating these things (rather than focusing on what I wasn’t going to be eating anymore). 
 
Diane asked me what worried me most about following this recommended lifestyle and gave me simple pragmatic solutions for each of the worries I raised. Diane’s solutions gave me the breakthrough I needed to get started with this new way of eating.
 
Perhaps the most impactful difference to the approach to eating Diane gave me was that there was no mention of quantities. This allowed me to change what I ate without worrying about when or how much I ate. Diane has given me no expectation of how much I should lose or by when - yet has reassured me results will come, and continue to come. This approach was magic as it stopped me worrying about some destination weight and getting there within a specified time-frame.
 
Once when I became confused, I emailed Diane for direction and she immediately clarified things for me and got me back on track with focusing on enjoying the new lifestyle rather than worrying about how fast the weight was coming off.
 
In addition to the original single A4 sheet, Diane has also given me recipes, tips and ideas to help me maintain variety in my eating. I have only met with Diane 3-4 times in the last 8 months and yet have lost over 20kg following her simple approach to eating. I have not weighed or measured what I eat. I have just followed the lifestyle. More importantly I have my energy back and no longer have seriously swollen feet.
 
I am now trusting that the balance of weight will come off over time. I am also now entirely hopeful, for the first time in my adult life, that I can sustain this simple and satisfying approach to eating and therefore ultimately sustain a normal weight for the rest of my life.
